Yokohama Avid Touring S Review: Test Drive And Findings
I for my test, I picked a 2010 Subaru DR Wagon with 225/60R17 tires fixed on it. I borrowed the vehicle from a dealer whom we have a long history of friendship.
The Subaru was a perfect pick because it already had the Yokohama Avid Touring S fixed on it three two months ago. I managed to test the vehicle on literally all the conditions save for the snow that I will rely on the dealer’s account.
Dry
The dry road traction is exceptional for any tire in its category. The grip was good enough that it gave me the confidence to press hard on the throttle at some point on the highways. Off the road, the tire still performed well.
The cornering was excellent as well as the braking experience. The tire bite on the road is good enough, so is its responsiveness. It is only at extremely high speeds that you tend to feel a slight loss of grip. Overall it is impressive on dry roads.
Wet
Yokohama Avid Touring S’s wet surface performance is way above inspiring compared to other tires in its category. It maintained an impressive bite on the ground while driving on a pool of muddy water.
Safe cornering at moderate speeds is also something worth noting of the tires. The braking distance was also good in the watery high ways.
Snow
As I said, I did not get the chance to test the tires on the snow. But from the dealer’s own account, the tires are good with light snows. They will get you to your destination if one morning you wake up to a snow carpet.
However, he warns that Yokohama Avid Touring S would really struggle with heavy snow.
Comfort
Great comfort. The tires made the car appear spongy, and I could feel its effort. The bumps in the highway and the irregular road designs off-road did little to change my mind on endorsing this tire on comfort.
A small punishment of the car through the potholes did not compromise the comfortable rides offered by Yokohama Avid Touring S.
Noise
In addition to its comfort, the tire was quiet. The road noise was subdued, and I cruised with much quietness on the highway.
Off-road, I had to go full throttle to get some noise. Safe for rough surfaces on high speeds, the tire is a good pick for quiet rides.
Tread Wear
The tires were three months old at the time of my road test, but the tires appeared one week old. Safe for the slight color change and the mud, you could easily be hoodwinked to buy them on a brand new price in the black market alleys.
The dealer tells me they can last over 65000 miles. That is an awesome tread wear guarantee.
